When we oversee the propliner preservation movement anno 2007 worldwide, one important (flying) aircraft is missing in the collections: the venerable Douglas DC-6 series, even not in the US! (I don't count the splendide Red Bull example as this VIP a/c is not available to the public).

Here in Europe one Six would be very attractive to be preserved, the old G-APSA.
C/n 45497/995 left Santa Monica a long time ago. Delivered to Maritime Central Airways as CF-MCK in June 1958. G-APSA was assigned to it when it was registered to Eagle Aviation in the UK, September 1958. It went to Saudi Arabian Airlines in February 1964, as HZ-ADA.
It was transferred to Yemen Airways in 1971 and changed into 4W-ABQ. It was stored some time in Yemen before Air Atlantique purchased it back in February 1987 and became again G-APSA. Air Atlantique changed its cargo operations as Atlantic Airlines in 1999...
Today I understand this classic propliner is stored in Coventry, thus its economical future is uncertain.

Would it be possible to set-up a project in the UK to "save" "Sierra Alpha" for (flying) preservation via this forum?
Maybe we can motivate some people in the business to take action and support such a project.

Any constructive comments or suggestions are welcome Wink

Hi Fernand.

G-APSA is certainly an important aircraft which deserves lots of support. She will be appearing at several events this summer: keep watching the Classic Flight website for news.

Best wishes for a happy summer 2007

Hope anyone keeps this oldie flying. In 2003 this G-APSA visited Lelystad Airport, one told me it was the largest aircraft ever that arrived there... What a beauty!

I added three photo's in the Photo Gallery. Enjoy!

Perhaps one day G-APSA could fly in the colours of Cunard Eagle again. There are some great photos out there of her in the old days, so it should not be too much problem to get the design just right.

Does anybody know which air shows she is going to this year?

Thanks Fernand.

I found my way to the classic flight bit, which you can go to directly at http://www.classicflight.com

There isn't a list of events exactly but there's lots of cool stuff about their aircraft. I didn't know they had so many!
