Two weeks ago, when I accessed the site, I got a mesage that I had to add software for the GAIN network to be able to participate. So, I followed the instructions and installed the software. Now, I get popups periodically. I understand that this might bring in some revenue to the site, but I want to confirm that it is a condition of the site to use this software. Today, I got another notification that I had to install some software when I first tried to enter the site.

Cal,

I had a similar experience and got some expert help from a computer savvy friend. He said GAIN is unrelated to this site and is MAL-WARE, some sort of malicious pop up generator that somehow got downloaded and masquerades as a gateway to a website. At his sugestion, I downloaded free pop up removal software from www.lavasoft.com (ad-aware software)and run it every day. It works like a charm and has solved ALL my pop up problems. Be sure to check for updates (easy, you'll see on their software menu) as they identify new threats all the time and can arm your computer to remove them.

I strongly suggest you download and install both Ad-Aware as well as Spybot Search and Destroy. They each pick up crap that the other misses. They will clean that spyware and adware crap off your computer.

Cal,
I'm in the process of moving to a new home this month so I saw your message a little late, but it looks like 377 answered correctly. The popups are unrelated to this site. My plan is to never resort to using them on this site. Popups are one of my pet peeves as well. Hopefully you've successfully removed the software from your system by now.

Thanks 377 for the link and advice.
