Mystery Jetliner
On my way to work this morning I noticed a strange looking jetliner on final to Lindbergh Field here in San Diego. The plane was equipped with two engines located on the after fuselage. It was not a MD-80 or 90...it was not that large...but larger than feeder type airliners. It had a pointed nose and appeared carrying American Airlines livery. It looked as if it carried possibly up to maybe 60 or 70 passengers. It's a new one on me. Any ideas?

Could it have been a Fokker F100? I know AA uses them.

Hi Greg,
Yes! That's the aircraft. I reached the same conclusion but I thought the Fokker 100 was no longer in service with the airlines. But now I recall that the aircraft is no longer being produced...but is still flying.
Thanks very much.

Doug, I think AA is thinking of disposing of their Fokkers sometime soon...who produces the spare parts if Fokker is gone?

I would imagine that Fokker still produces systems replacements and other stuff for their aircraft...or at least has storehoused various parts as replacements.

After the demise of Fokker, some parts of the company were purchased by a large Dutch firm called 'Stork', and since then support for the aircraft has been provided by Fokker Services, which still exists. See
