i was wondering,does ASA still own and operate DeHavilland DHC-7 "Dash 7" aircraft? last time i flew on one was back in like 1993. also,do anybody have any recordings or know where i can get recordings of either the Dash 7 and Dash 8 or both? thanx...and peace!

Ahh yes, the old ASA Dash-7s. I flew on many of them between ATL and VPS in the 80s and early 90s. Weren't those basically a STOL bird?

I think the Dash-8 carries the same number of pax, flies faster, and burns less gas. No??

yup,the Dash 7 is that 4 engined bird with the huge flaps and Cessna style exhaust stacks.i flew one them a few times from Atlanta to Montgomery,Ala.the Dash 8 carries the same people count and is really shorter than the Dash 7 but has more powerful and fuel efficent turboprops than the "7".i miss the Dash 7 though but i love the sound the Dash 8 makes at full throttle...that whiney sound!

Hi, I have been with ASA since 98. The "DASH 7" was already long gone then. I'm not sure when it was retired. The company started in 1979 with a DHC-6 "Twin Otter" then later operated the Embraer EMB-110 "Bandit" Shorts 360, DHC-7, and ATR-72. In 1995 ASA started it's first jet service with the BAE-146. The BAE "buy another engine" proved to be unreliable so that was short lived. ASA was the launch customer for the neat Embraer EMB-120 in the mid 80s. ASA retired our last Brasilia last year. I hated to see it go after working with it for over 5 years. We still have (I think 17) of the ATR-72. Our growing fleet is otherwise all CRJ-200 and CRJ-700 with more on the way.
